What to do with all your good ideas
Not every idea deserves your whole day.
Some ideas are just sparks, and that’s enough.
Last week I got hit with this rush of inspiration:
"What if I made a Descript course?"
Felt like a no-brainer. I use it every day. There’s a gap in the market. It could help a lot of people!
So I opened my notes app, started mapping it out...and quickly realized:
This wasn’t a quick win. This was a full-on project.
It’s wild how easy it is to confuse momentum with urgency.
I used to think:
“If I don’t act on this idea right now, I’ll lose the magic.”
But here’s what I’ve learned (the hard way):
- Creative energy doesn’t disappear if you pause.
- Real ideas don’t die just because you wait.
- Trying to immediately build every spark into a finished thing leads to burn out.
Lately, I’ve been thinking of it like this:
1️⃣ You need an idea budget.
2️⃣ Not every idea gets the same spend.
Some ideas get an hour.
Some get a week.
Some get a note in your phone to revisit in a season when the time is right.
The shift is trusting that you don’t lose anything by waiting.
You actually gain clarity, energy, and quality of output.
So if you’re swimming in ideas right now, cool.
✍️ Write them down.
⚡️ Feel the spark.
Then give yourself permission not to build all of them today.
❌ That’s not wasting creative momentum.
✅ That’s owning it.
Keep creating,
Dylan
