Simplifying isn’t selling out (it’s the work)
A common thing I hear from smart, thoughtful people who want to create more content:
“It’s just hard to make what I do fit into social media.”
It’s usually said casually. Like it’s just a practical formatting issue.
But underneath it, I’ve started to notice something deeper…
It’s not that they don’t want to share.
It’s that they’re afraid of what will happen if they simplify.
They don’t want to be misunderstood.
They don’t want to be dismissed.
And maybe, deep down, they don’t want to look like they’re trying.
So instead of making one clear thing, they try to cram everything into one post.
Or they don’t post at all.
Or they jump formats, hoping a new one will finally “make sense.”
But here’s the thing:
Your message isn’t too deep for the internet. It’s too unstructured for people to understand.
Simplifying your message isn’t dumbing things down. It’s giving it the space to land.
If you’re stuck right now, try this:
👉 Imagine just one person on the other side.
👉 Say one thing to them.
👉 Let the rest wait.
❌ Smart doesn’t mean complicated
✅ Smart means clear
Keep creating,
Dylan
