Cops Are Testing Body Cameras That Scan Your Face
Police are testing body cameras that scan your face for warrants just for walking past them.
Axon, the company that makes tasers, is running the first test in the world right now in Edmonton, Canada.
Here's how it works...
A cop walks past you,
the body camera scans your face,
it checks you against a database of people with warrants or “safety flags”.
You don't have to do anything, you just have to exist near a police officer.
The Electronic Frontier Foundation says this destroys privacy for anyone who happens to walk past a cop.
Axon paused this technology in 2019 because their own ethics board said it was too dangerous.
Now they're testing it anyway.
Today it's Canada, but Axon is the biggest supplier for body cameras for police departments in America.
